Bad guys and worse look out, the MCU has a new team of misfits coming in 2025.
After months of teasing across the summer convention circuit, Marvel has released the first full official trailer for its next team up movie, Thunderboltsâsorry, Thunderbolts*, whatever that mystery asterisk ever entailsâbringing together an unlikely assortment of rogues for a dangerous new mission. The trailer appears to be the one shown to fans in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con earlier this year, as we watch Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) find herself crossing paths with a rogue’s gallery of Marvel nemesesâincluding Falcon and the Winter Soldier‘s John Walker/US Agent, Ant-Man and the Wasp‘s Ghost, and Black Widow‘s Taskmasterâwrapped up in what seems at first like an attempt to take out some of the MCU’s seediest shadow operatives… only to find themselves teaming up to work under the control of Julia Louis-Dreyfus’s Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. With a little help from Bucky Barnes himself, too… well, “help,” considering he also seems like he’s trying to kill them a few times in this trailer. Check it out! There’s a lot of fun hereâmainly thanks to another addition to Yelena’s team in the form of her fellow Black Widow bestie, David Harbour’s Red Guardianâand we get some cool shots of Thunderbolts‘ biggest mystery so far. That comes in the form of Lewis Pullman’s character, introduced in Yelena, Walker, Ghost, and Taskmaster’s little meet-cute/violent disposal trap as “Bob,” but later seen apparently just bouncing an entire squadron of soldier’s weapons fire off of his bare skin. That’s because “Bob” is in fact seemingly Robbie Reynolds, a.k.a. The Sentry, essentially one of Marvel Comics’ several riffs on their own kind of Superman, infused with a super-soldier-esque serum that grants him vast amount of superhuman power often described as the strength of a million exploding suns. Yeowch. Directed by Jake Shrier, it stars Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr/Ghost, Wyatt Russell as John Walker/US Agent, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, Olga Kurylenko as Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster, Lewis Pullman as the Sentry, and Harrison Ford as Thaddeus âThunderboltâ Ross, the Red Hulk and occasional President of the United States. Here’s a new poster to tide you over with at least some of those aforementioned people on it! We’ll see just how Sentry fits into the rest of Fontaine’s odd team, and more, when Thunderbolts hits theaters May 2025. Want more io9 news?
