I could not logically conclude that it’s a giant spaghetti monster flailing its tentacles about, resulting in the noise unless I were to actually go outside and visually witness the monster. Otherwise, I can pretty reasonably solve the question by saying, “That’s rain.” or “That’s squirrels.” A reasonable alternative argument would be that it’s birds, or rats. But it’s not a spaghetti monster.Similarly, with cattle mutilation, aliens, cultists and The Great Schwabanger are not reasonable explanations. Reasonable people can disagree on whether it was afflicted by disease, accidental injury, predators, scavengers, flies or some combination thereof, but those are all reasonable, pedestrian explanations that we’re familiar with.As far as why this was a big deal in the 1970s…it seems that cattle production in the US peaked around 1975. More cows in general means more cows met a weird end.By the way, the real problem here is that ranchers who have issues like this simply are not keeping their ranch secure. They don’t have enough ranch hands, aren’t fencing their property correctly and are letting their cows wander off unsupervised. Maybe they also aren’t keeping an eye on sick animals.
