Lego’s October Releases Sail Us Into the Season

After September was relatively quiet for Lego, the brickbuilder is having a blockbuster October, just in time for you to start wondering what could be going under the Christmas tree this year. That means big sets, big crossovers, and, as is always the case with Lego Star Wars, something very large and shiny indeed. October is a huge month for Lego, not just due to bumper releases like the latest Lego Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series release, Jabba’s Sail Barge, or even other landmark sets like the new Super Mario Yoshi display piece and the latest “Winter Village” holiday set. It also marks the launch of a bunch of big new brand lines for Lego, including new sets inspired by Wednesday and the Wicked movie. But perhaps biggest of all for Lego is the long-awaited launch of official Lego Fortnite kits, bringing the toymaker’s collaboration with Epic out of the digital world and into Lego’s usual realm. Scroll down to see what’s the deal with everything Lego this month. The latest addition to the community-backed Ideas line is a display piece celebrating a wide variety of Disney’s animated legacy. Built around a display piece of Sorcerer’s Apprentice Mickey as he appears in the classic Fantasia, the set has miniature replicas of iconic moments from The Lion King, Lilo & Stitch, Beauty and the Beast, Encanto, Pinocchio, and The Little Mermaid. ($100, available here) See at Lego.com The latest UCS drop for Star Wars takes us to the opening act of Return of the Jedi with Lego’s biggest-ever take on the Khetanna, Jabba’s pleasure barge. Featuring a fully detailed interior and plenty of minifigures to recreate the climactic battle aboard the barge (although you might want to also grab the recent Skiff set to really complete the scene), it commands a price worthy of the Hutt Cartel’s most lavish power player. ($500, available October 1 for Lego Insiders, October 3 widely). See at Lego.com Netflix’s Addams Family series might seem like an odd choice for Lego, but it brings a suitably spooky-season twist to the toymaker’s line of doll-based sets. There’s something for everyone in the initial wave, from chibi Brickheadz, to a creepy doll of the titular moody protagonist, and a more traditional building set. One of the most iconic portraits in history is now brickier than usual with the latest Lego Art set. Faithfully recreating Da Vinci’s original color palette for the Mona Lisa, the set features the most gold Lego pieces ever included in a set to recreate the painting’s frame. ($100, available here). See at Lego.com The coolest Batman to ever grace our screens had a Batmobile to match, and Lego’s celebrating it in style with its latest collector-focused large scale replica of the Dark Knight’s ride. The Batman ’66 Batmobile comes with an opening trunk to store Batman’s mobile Bat-Computer, and even though he can’t actually drive the Batmobile, there’s an included minifigure of Adam West’s Batman to pose with it. ($150, available here) See at Lego.com Lego’s been in cahoots with Fortnite in a big way recently thanks to the Battle Royale shooter’s own Lego survival mode launching late last year. But now the team up is making its way to the real world with a bundle of sets inspired by Fortnite‘s most popular mode, featuring iconic symbols like the Supply Llama, Peely, the Durrr Burger, and of course, a Battle Bus just jam-packed with Fortnite characters. Every year, Lego’s holiday village display line gains one new seasonal set, and this time Santa’s operation expands into the ever-important mail industry with his own dedicated post office. I mean, after all, he does get millions of letters a year. The set includes Santa, a litany of elves to collect his mail, and even a hot air balloon with a glowing light-brick to simulate its fiery engine lighting up. ($100, available here) See at Lego.com Lego’s latest Nintendo crossover leans back into its buildable display piece style for everything that’s not one of Super Mario‘s electronically enhanced creativity sets with this moving model of the iconic Super Mario World sprite of Mario riding Yoshi. It even moves up and down to make Yoshi run, thanks to a little crank! ($130, available here) See at Lego.com Another addition to Lego’s line of doll-figure sets brings the film adaptation of Wicked‘s Oz to bricky life in a quartet of sets. There’s some parallels to the Wednesday line here, like the buildable doll set of Elphaba and Glinda, but Wicked leans more into the mini-doll and playset vibe of things. The second Lego Star Wars drop this month is much smaller in price and scale—but packs a ton of valuable minifigures in this little battle pack, including three Rebel fleet troopers and three Stormtroopers with their own vehicles. But on top of that, there’s also another Lego Star Wars 25th anniversary bonus minifigure included: the pink astromech R2-QT, the first time the droid has been turned into a minifigure. ($40, available here) See at Lego.com We’re getting closer and closer to Shadow’s big debut in theaters with Keanu Reeves joining Sonic the Hedgehog 3, and Lego is capitalizing on that with its latest “bust” display in the vein of its Star Wars and Marvel helmet collections.
